Within the northern city of Debre Birhan lie IDP camps, born out of necessity for those whose lives have been torn by conflict since 2019. These camps house the shattered hopes of those who fled their homes due to natural disasters, conflict, or other unimaginable circumstances. In the shadows of adversity, countless children and families endure a relentless struggle, living in conditions beyond imagination.
In December 2023, our team at RAS visited these IDP sites, bearing witness to their stories rooted in resilience. Within the makeshift homes and schools, and the communal housing devoid of privacy and safety, the children carry the weight of uncertainty on their small shoulders. They suffer from the physical, emotional, and mental consequences of the conflict that has scared the community and the children the most. Despite the harsh reality, the children's laughter pierces through, their smiles and joy a testament to their unbreakable spirit.
We journeyed to the IDP camps in Debre Birhan, with supplies of over 9000 energy biscuits and bags of powdered milk intended for the children within the camps. Our efforts successfully reached an estimated 12,000 children across the three camps.
